POSITION SUMMARY
The Calling Stage Manager (CSM) is a critical member of the Production team, serving as the primary communication link between The Atlanta Opera (TAO) and all members of a production, including artists, designers, and other stakeholders, during the full production period. The CSM is responsible for collaborating with visiting creative team members and TAO staff to determine all rehearsal and performance needs for the production.   The CSM will execute all elements of the production technical cue calling and management of show paperwork to the best of their ability.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following duties, in addition to other duties as assigned.

  • Supervise Assistant Stage Managers (ASM) and interns.
  • Run all rehearsals and communicate rehearsal schedules.
  • Plan and determine needs for technical and dress rehearsals with the Technical Director (TD).
  • Coordinate production meetings and manage rehearsal preparations.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of notes and documents.
  • Call shows and run technical rehearsals.
  • Manage supply inventories and request supplies as needed.

COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Confident and calm management skills.
  • Ability to read music and knowledge of opera production.
  • Experience leading a stage management team and working with union crews.

SUMMARY
The Costume Director (CD) is responsible for overseeing the Costume and Wardrobe Departments to produce world-class opera productions, both grand and intimate. This role ensures smooth daily operations of the shop and wardrobe facilities during the producing season. The Costume Director coordinates with the Designer to manage all costume items, including their purchase, construction, alteration, and maintenance for TAO productions. They support the artistic vision of the production, ensuring costumes are realized collaboratively, creatively, and within budget. Additionally, the Costume Director oversees the rental stock and rental program. This position reports to the Director of Production Planning and the Director of Production Operations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following duties, in addition to other duties as assigned.

  • Leadership and Teamwork: Demonstrate leadership through teamwork, respect, accountability, inclusion, delegation, communication, and fostering a positive working environment. Actively promote a culture of job safety.
  • Inclusive Work Environment: Ensure that all costume shop workspaces, including the shop floor, fittings, quick-change spaces, and other areas under the costume department’s purview, are inclusive and respectful for performers, designers, and staff.
  • Oversight and Hiring: Oversee a staff of 6-10, including full-time seasonal, part-time, and over-hire positions. Manage union/non-union labor wardrobe show crews. Act as the liaison with Hair and Makeup teams and designers. Hire and recruit over-hires, staff positions, and other roles as needed for costume support.
  • Costume Production Management: Schedule, coordinate, and supervise the fabrication and procurement of costumes for all productions. Collaborate with and guide costume designers to realize their designs within budget, time, and infrastructure constraints.
  • Financial Management: Suggest scope adjustments, estimate project costs based on design information, participate in forecasting and cash flow for the department, track and project expenses (materials, labor, rentals, outsourcing), handle financial reconciliation, manage payroll, and supervise all costume shop labor within budget.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Maintain strong communication and collaboration with stage management, directors, designers, and TAO staff.
  • Stock and Rental Management: Manage existing stock and costume rental packages, consult on outgoing and incoming rental projects with the Production Team, and manage the costume rental supervisor.
  • Outsourcing Relationships: Develop and source relationships with costume fabrication shops or individuals for potential outsourcing of costume fabrication.
  • Support TAO Activities: Support all other activities of TAO requiring costume department involvement.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALLIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor/Bachelor of Fine Arts and/or graduate degree in Costume Technology or Management, or equivalent work experience in a professional theatrical costume shop.
  • Experience: At least ten (10) years of work experience in costume production and/or in a costume shop environment.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of costume construction techniques and practices, design techniques, materials, and industry trends.
  • Availability: Ability to work 6 days a week, including nights, weekends, holidays, and over 12 hours in a day as required by the production schedule.
  • Performing Arts Knowledge: Working knowledge of the performing arts, including Opera, Theatre, and Dance.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

SUMMARY

The Firsthand/Stitcher is an essential member of the costume shop team, collaborating closely with the Costume Director and other team members to ensure all costumes meet the artistic and technical standards required for performances. Under the supervision of the Master Draper/Tailor, the Firsthand/Stitcher assists in the creation, alteration, and maintenance of costumes for TAO productions. This role involves constructing new costumes, preparing stock/rental costumes for use, and advising costume technicians on sewing and construction techniques.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following duties in addition to other duties as assigned.

  • Assist the Master Draper/Tailor in the creation of patterns as needed.
  • Cut fabric based on patterns supplied by Master Draper/Tailor.
  • Attend fittings as needed.
  • Help prepare alterations from fittings for Stitchers.
  • Mentor Stitchers and advise on methodologies for building, and alterations on purchased, pulled and rental garments.
  • Perform construction projects as assigned.
  • Effectively manage time of self, crews and workflow.
  • Communicate with other team members concerning problems and solutions.
  • Contribute to a pleasant and professional atmosphere in the shop.

 COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge in garment construction including fabric preparation, pressing, construction, and industry machine and hand-sewing techniques.

SUMMARY
The Lighting Supervisor (LS) reports directly to the Technical Director (TD) and oversees all lighting activities in support of The Atlanta Opera’s (TAO) mission. The LS actively manages lighting operations and provides administrative support for the Production Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following duties in addition to other duties as assigned.

  • Collaborate with Lighting Designers: Provide necessary information such as ground plans, inventory lists, and preliminary schedules for light plot and specifications.
  • Draft Lighting Plots: Create lighting plots that adhere to TAO standards.
  • Feasibility Advisement: Consult with the Technical Director (TD) and head electrician to assess the feasibility of designs, considering venue limitations, inventory, budget, schedule, and other special concerns.
  • Plan Electric Hang and Focus: Coordinate with the TD and head electrician to plan the electric hang, focus, and cueing.
  • Order Lighting Equipment: Procure lighting equipment, including rental gear, expendables, and special equipment.
  • Manage Electrics Budget: Oversee the electrics budget in coordination with the TD.
  • Supervise Lighting Installation: Work with the head electrician to supervise the hanging and installation of all lights and lighting equipment.
  • Oversee Focus: Supervise the focus of lighting equipment.
  • Attend Services: Be present at all services with the Lighting Designer.
  • Call Follow Spot Cues: Manage follow spot cues as necessary.
  • Monitor Performances: Attend all performances to ensure the preservation of the lighting design, taking notes and making adjustments for any issues.
  • Maintain Lighting Equipment: Coordinate with the head electrician to create and maintain all TAO lighting equipment, whether owned, rented, or borrowed.
  • Maintain Communication Equipment: Work with the TD and head electrician to maintain all communication equipment, such as clear-com headsets and two-way radios, and address additional requests from other departments.
  • Supervise A/V Technician: Coordinate with the TD and head electrician to supervise the audio/visual technician in the venue.
  • Provide Technical Support: Offer technical support for lighting at special events or functions.
  • Work Flexibly: Fulfill tasks and needs both in-person and remotely, as agreed with the TD.
  • Document Productions: Fully document all productions from development through performances, maintaining up-to-date documentation and video/photo records.
  • Manage TAO Infrastructure: Oversee the management of TAO infrastructure, including networking, power, and tech tables.

 COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication abilities, along with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational Excellence: Highly organized with keen attention to detail.
  • Time Management: Capable of meeting deadlines and managing multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Suite, and the ability to quickly learn new software programs.
  • Digital Drafting Expertise: Proficient in digital drafting using Vectorworks.
  • ETC Board Knowledge: Familiarity with ETC Board and dimming systems is beneficial but not required.
  • Opera Knowledge: Knowledge of or a strong interest in opera is preferred.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or a related field.
  • Professional Experience: At least five years of work experience in theatrical production, with a demonstrated track record of increased responsibility.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods (up to and over eight hours per day) and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively using a phone and headset.
  • Licensing: Valid driver’s license.
  • Safety Compliance: Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner.
  • Availability: The position requires evening and weekend commitments during the opera season.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in the financial operations of The Atlanta Opera, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in accounting processes. This position will be responsible for various accounting tasks, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, reconciliations, and assisting with month-end and year-end close procedures. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and possesses a strong understanding of accounting principles.

  • Accounts Payable:
    • Process vendor invoices and ensure timely and accurate payments.
    • Maintain accurate vendor records and resolve vendor inquiries.
    • Prepare and process check runs and electronic payments.
    • Reconcile vendor statements.
  • Accounts Receivable:
    • Generate and distribute customer invoices.
    • Process and record customer payments.
    • Monitor and follow up on overdue accounts.

COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or arts organization.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with ticketing systems is a plus.
  • A passion for the arts is a plus.
  • Position requires evening and weekend obligations during the opera season.

Supernumeraries are non-speaking, non-singing roles in opera, similar to extras in movies. Casting needs vary per production. The Atlanta Opera accepts supernumerary applications any time.
